Fascinating Cezanne, a true Paris treasure, Indian art...

July 31, 2017

on our front page this week…

The Musée d'Orsay reveals 60 portraits of the painter of the Sainte-Victoire mountain, more famous for his landscapes and still lives. Fascinating. It's crazy how much Cézanne has always been associated with the green, that of its landscapes, the Sainte-Victoire mountain, woods, trees. An exhibition of him without green, except the abstract background of a portrait of peasant, and without Provencer. We almost miss it at first. The Musée d'Orsay takes up a challenge, which had never been before, except in 1910, four years after his death: an exhibition made up solely of portraits by Paul Cézanne (1839-1906). No trace of nature. No fruit either. No still life. What a lifetime: his relatives, his mother, his father, his uncle, his sister, his wife, his son, a friend, the local peasants, and the painter himself.

Nestled in the square louis XVI, this neoclassical chapel is a vestige of French history . It was built there where Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI were buried before their transfer to the Basilica St Denis. One can also read there the testament of Louis XVI before its execution. A real piece of history.                                          29 Rue Pasquier, 75008 Paris
